Wacc for Fiat Group free essay sample
The WACC is the weighted normal expense of capital. It is a count of the organizations cost of capital considering the pertinent load of value and obligation as an extent of the aggregate. The expense of value or KE determined utilizing a hazard free rate model German 5yr government security, the firmââ¬â¢s beta and the arrival available. The firmââ¬â¢s beta is a count of the organizations introduction to the market, a beta of under 1 demonstrates that the firm isn't as impacted by outside variables as the normal firm in that advertise. A beta more prominent than 1 demonstrates that the firm is more vigorously presented to showcase factors than the normal firm in that advertise. The recipe I will use to figure the expense of value is the CAP-M equation and is as per the following; KE = RF + B (RM â⬠RF) RF = Risk free rate, B = Firmââ¬â¢s Beta, RM = Return available The expense of obligation or KD is determined by finding the interior pace of return for all the organizations securities. We will compose a custom paper test on Wacc for Fiat Group or on the other hand any comparable subject explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page First the coupon on the bond is found for every one of the rest of the years until development, at that point we deduct charge, at long last we pick test two markdown factors and put our discoveries into the accompanying equation; IRR = DCF1 + (DCF2 â⬠DCF1) * NPV1 â⬠0/NPV1 NPV2 Once we have discovered our KE and KD we should discover the loads of both the value and obligation capital. At last the entirety of this data is gone into our WACC recipe which is as per the following where MV is the market estimation of the organization; WACC = (KE * MV of value/MV of organization) + (KD * MV of obligation/MV of organization) Cost of Debt I additionally delighted in, while I discovered calm troublesome, the degree of sincere belief that goes into a report this way. I was extremely keen on the various figures I found for Fiats beta, I picked a high beta of 1. 62 because of the way that the engine business is so unpredictable as observed by the impact of the ongoing monetary accident on vehicle deals. Likewise the sharp turn that the value oil can have largy affects the engine business, significantly more so than the impact on other assembling ventures as in addition to the fact that Fiat uses oil in the creation of its items its items additionally expect it to work. I ran into a couple of challenges toward the beginning primarily when it went to the picking of an organization to examine. From the outset I pick Ryanair however as Ryanair don't have any given bonds I chose to investigate another organization at any rate for my first endeavor of a report of this nature. The primary concern I picked up from doing this report was the capacity to inquire about an organization, from the outset I thought that it was troublesome and tedious simply attempting to recover calculates that I thought were correct.

The Example of Concluding a Sentence
The Example of Concluding a SentenceBy starting with an example of concluding a statement, the speaker of the statement is stating that they are ready to continue. The final statement can be either the conclusion or the justification.Concluding a statement can refer to anything. It could be saying that you have the facts, or that you've made the decisions. It could even mean saying that you are done explaining something. This ending of a statement could also mean that you are saying goodbye to something. While the ending of a statement is known as the conclusion, a different ending called the justification is used. This ending is different from the conclusion in that it is used to explain the reasoning behind the actions or the conclusions. For example, if someone said that he was just happy with his life, then the conclusion could be, 'He's happy with his life is good'. However, if the person was trying to say that his life was not going to get any better, then he would say, 'I'm not happy with my life and I want to change'.The reason why it is referred to as the ending of a statement is because this is the point at which the speaker is finished explaining something. The speaker may say that they are done with the explanation, but that does not mean that they are finished with talking about it. There are still other parts of the explanation that could be said before the conclusion is reached. These parts can include, say, discussing how the person got where they are in life, and how the reasons for the things that happened could have been avoided. The person's hopes, dreams, and aspirations can be discussed after the conclusion is reached. The way that the ending of a statement is used is different for both statements that are just sentences and statements that are paragraphs. A paragraph can usually be concluded with one of the following ends: by saying 'Done'Thatis all that I have to say', or by having a statement like 'I have enough information to conclude th at this is how I feel about ...'The final statement of a paragraph will be an explanation on what exactly happened in the article. The final paragraph will also include the reason why that conclusion was reached. A paragraph will usually contain at least four paragraphs with a concluding paragraph at the end.Another reason why the conclusion is used is that it is an explanation on why the person is making the statements that they are making. For example, if someone is giving their opinion on what is right or wrong, then the conclusion is used to provide more information. This final statement is also used when a sentence contains more information that is already given.

Reading Comprehension Checklist and Questions for Students
For special education learners, the difference between reading ability and reading comprehension can be stark. Many children who fall into the category of different learners struggle at various places in the reading comprehension process. Dyslexic students have trouble reading letters and words. Other students may find summarizing what they have read to be the hard part. And yet other studentsââ¬âincluding those with ADHD or autismââ¬âmay read words fluently, but be unable to make sense of the arc of a story or even a sentence. What Is Reading Comprehension? Simply, reading comprehension is the ability to learn and process information from written sources. Its primary step is decoding, which is the act of assigning sounds and meaning to letters and words. But as simple as defining reading comprehension may be, it is notoriously difficult to teach. For many students, reading will give them their first glimpse into subjective understanding, as they realize that the information that they have gleaned from a text may differ from a fellow students, or that the picture they have drawn in their minds after reading a text will be different from that of their peers. How Is Reading Comprehension Assessed? The most common kinds of reading comprehension tests are ones in which students read a short passage and are asked a series of questions about it. Yet, for special education students, this method is fraught with the pitfalls outlined above. Moving from the process of decoding text to answering questions about the text can present challenges for children who cannot jump from task to task with facility, even if they are great readers and have strong comprehension skills. Sample Questions to Ask About Reading For this reason, an oral exam may bear more fruit than a standard written reading comprehension test. Heres a checklist of questions to ask a child about a book shes read. Their answers will provide you with a glimpse of their ability to comprehend. Consider these questions: 1.____ Who are the main characters in your story? 2.____ Are any of the main characters like you or like somebody you know? What makes you think so? 3.____ Describe your favorite character in the story and tell me why the character is your favorite. 4.____ When do you think the story takes place? Where do you think the story takes place? Why do you think so?à 5.____ What is the funniest/scariest/best part of the story? 6.____ Is there a problem in this story? If so, how does the problem get solved? How would you have solved the problem? 7.____ Would any of your friends/family enjoy this book? Why or why not? 8.____ Could you come up with another good title for this book? What would it be? 9.____ What if you could change the ending of this book, what would it be? 10.____ Do you think this book would make a good movie? Why or why not? Questions like these are a great tool to incorporate into story time. If a parent volunteer or a student is reading to the class, have them ask one or more of them. Keep a folder with these questions and have your volunteers record what the students say about the book title theyve just read. The key to success in ensuring your struggling readers maintain a joy for reading is to ensure that the task following reading isnt unpleasant. Dont make answering a series of questions a chore that follows a fun or exciting story. Foster a love of reading by sharing your enthusiasm about what their book is all about.

Essay on Artificial Intelligence and its Uses - 819 Words
Artificial Intelligence and its Uses Artificial intelligence is defined as the ability of a machine to think for itself. Scientists and theorists continue to debate if computers will actually be able to think for themselves at one point. The generally accepted theory is that computers do and will think more in the future. AI has grown rapidly in the last ten years because of the advances in computer architecture. As AI advances, human beings are using it to help with some problems that use AI. AI is achieved using a number of different methods. The more popular methods are neural networks, fuzzy logic, and expert systems. There are very few applications that are pre-written using AI. This system provides a smart light that can decide whether a traffic light should be changed more often or remain green longer. In order for these smart lights to work, the system assigns a value to an input and checks all the inputs at once. Those inputs that have the highest value get the highest amount of attention. Another example is how a fuzzy logic system might evaluate water temperature. If the water is cold, it assigns a value of zero. If it is hot the system will assign the value of one. But if the next sample is lukewarm, it has the capability to decide upon a value of 0.6. The different degrees of warmness or coldness are shown through the values assigned to it. Hitachi and Matsushita are starting to manufacture washing machines that automatically adjust for load size and how dirty the clothes are. These machines wash until clothes are clean, not just for ten minutes. Matsushita also manufactures vacuum cleaners that adjust the suction power according to the volume of dust and the dirtiness of the floor. Fuzzy logics structure allows it to easily rate any input and decide upon the importance. Expert systems have proven effective in a number of problem areas that usually require human intelligence. Expert systems are primarily used as specialized problem solvers.Show MoreRelatedUse Of Artificial Intelligence At The New Yorker1044 Words à |à 5 Pages1. A. Thoreau Essay Example For Students
Thoreau Essay English Henry David Thoreau The Great Conservationist, Visionary, and Humanist He spent his life in voluntary poverty, enthralled by the study of nature. Two years, in the prime of his life, were spent living in a shack in the woods near a pond. Who would choose a life like this? Henry David Thoreau did, and he enjoyed it. Who was Henry David Thoreau, what did he do, and what did others think of his work? Henry David Thoreau was born in Concord, Massachusetts on July 12, 1817 (Thoreau 96), on his grandmothers farm. Thoreau, who was of French-Huguenot and Scottish-Quaker ancestry, was baptized as David Henry Thoreau, but at the age of twenty he legally changed his name to Henry David. Thoreau was raised with his older sister Helen, older brother John, and younger sister Sophia (Derleth 1) in genteel poverty (The 1995 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia 1). It quickly became evident that Thoreau was interested in literature and writing. At a young age he began to show interest writing, and he wrote his first essay, The Seasons, at the tender age of ten, while attending Concord Academy (Derleth 4). In 1833, at the age of sixteen, Henry David was accepted to Harvard University, but his parents could not afford the cost of tuition so his sister, Helen, who had begun to teach, and his aunts offered to help. With the assistance of his family and the beneficiary funds of Harvard he went to Cambridge in August 1833 and entered Harvard on September first. He Thoreau stood close to the top of his class, but he went his own way too much to reach the top (5). In December 1835, Thoreau decided to leave Harvard and attempt to earn a living by teaching, but that only lasted about a month and a half (8). He returned to college in the fall of 1836 and graduated on August 16, 1837 (12). Thoreaus years at Harvard University gave him one great gift, an introduction to the world of books. Upon his return from college, Thoreaus family found him to be less likely to accept opinions as facts, more argumentative, and inordinately prone to shock people with his own independent and unconventional opinions. During this time he discovered his secret desire to be a poet (Derleth 14), but most of all he wanted to live with freedom to think and act as he wished. Immediately after graduation from Harvard, Henry David applied for a teaching position at the public school in Concord and was accepted. However, he refused to flog children as punishment. He opted instead to deliver moral lectures. This was looked down upon by the community, and a committee was asked to review the situation. They decided that the lectures were not ample punishment, so they ordered Thoreau to flog recalcitrant students. With utter contempt he lined up six children after school that day, flogged them, and handed in his resignation, because he felt that physical punishment should have no part in education (Derleth 15). In 1837 Henry David began to write his Journal (16). It started out as a literary notebook, but later developed into a work of art. In it Thoreau record his thoughts and discoveries about nature (The 1995 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia 1). Later that same year, his sister, Helen, introduced him to Lucy Jackson Brown, who just happened to be Ralph Waldo Emersons sister-in-law. She read his Journal, and seeing many of the same thoughts as Emerson himself had expressed, she told Emerson of Thoreau. Emerson asked that Thoreau be brought to his home for a meeting, and they quickly became friends (Derleth 18). On April 11, 1838, not long after their first meeting Thoreau, with Emersons help, delivered his first lecture, Society (21). Ralph Waldo Emerson was probably the single most portentous person in Henry David Thoreaus life. From 1841 to 1843 and again between 1847 and 1848 Thoreau lived as a member of Emersons household, and during this time he came to know Bronson Alcott, Margaret Fuller, and many other members of the Transcendental Club (Thoreau 696). On August 31, 1839 Henry David and his elder brother, John, left Concord on a boat trip down the Concord River, onto the Middlesex Canal, into the Merrimack River and into the state of New Hampshire. Out of this trip came Thoreaus first book, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers (25). Early in 1841, John Thoreau, Henrys beloved older brother, became very ill, most likely with tuberculosis, and in early May a poor and distraught Henry David moved into the upstairs of Ralph Waldo Emersons house (35). Marijuana Essay Thesis One may almost doubt if the wisest man has learned anything of absolute value by living (16). Walden is filled with sarcasm, criticism, and observations of nature, life, and society, and is written in a very unique style. Walden has been described as an elaborate system of circular imagery which centers on Walden Pond as a symbol of heaven, the ideal of perfection that should be striven for (Thoreau 697). Thoreau has been called Americas greatest prose stylist, naturalist, pioneer ecologist, conservationist, visionary, and humanist (The 1995 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia 2). It has also been said that Thoreaus style shows an unconscious, but very pointed degree of Emersons influence. However, there is often a rudeness, and an inartistic carelessness in Thoreaus style that is not at all like the style of Emerson. Thoreau possessed an amazing forte for expressing his many observations in vivid color: No one has ever excelled him in the field of minute description. His acute powers of observation, his ability to keep for a long time his attention upon one thing, and his love of nature and of solitude, all lend a distinct individuality to his style (Pattee 226). Thoreaus good friend Bronson Alcott described his style as: More primitive and Homeric than any American, his style of thinking was robust, racy, as if Nature herself had built his sentences and seasoned the sense of his paragraphs with his own vigor and salubrity. Nothing can be spared from them; there is nothing superfluous; all is compact, concrete, as nature is (Alcott 16). Most of Thoreaus writings had to do with Nature which caused him to receive both positive and negative criticism. Paul Elmer More said that Thoreau wasThe greatest by far of our writers on Nature and the creator of a new sentiment in literature, but he then does a complete turn around to say: Much of his Thoreaus writing, perhaps the greater part, is the mere record of observation and classification, and has not the slightest claim on our remembrance, unless, indeed, it posses some scientific value, which I doubt (More 860). Thoreau was always very forthright in everything he said. Examples of this can be found throughout Walden, one of which being his statement in chapter twoTo a philosopher all news, as it is called, is gossip, and they who edit and read it are old women over their tea (Thoreau 79). There is certainly no ersatz sentiment, nor simulation of reverence of benevolence in Walden (Briggs 445). Thoreau was a philosopher of individualism, who placed nature above materialism in private life, and ethics above conformity in politics (The 1995 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia 1). His life was marked by whimsical acts and unusual stands on public issues (Thoreau 697). These peculiar beliefs led to a lot of criticism of Thoreau and his work. James Russell Lowell complained the Thoreau exalted the constraints of his own dispositions and insisted upon accepting his shortcomings and debilities as virtues and powers. Lowell considered: a great deal of the modern sentimentalism about Nature. ..a mark of disease (Wagenknecht 2). In some ways Walden is deluding. It consists of eighteen essays in which Thoreau condenses his twenty-six month stay at Walden Pond into the seasons of a single year. Also, the idea is expressed in Magills Survey of American Literature that: Walden was not a wilderness, nor was Thoreau a pioneer; his hut was within two miles of town, and while at Walden, he made almost daily visits to Concord and to his family, dined out often, had frequent visitors, and went off on excursions. Walden is a testament to the renewing power of nature, to the need of respect and preservation of the environment, and to the belief thatin wildness is the salvation of the world (Magill 1949). Walden is simply an experience recreated in words for the purpose of getting rid of the world and discovering the self (Thoreau 697). Henry David Thoreau strived for freedom and equality. He was opinionated and argumentative. He stood up for what he believed in and was willing to fight for it. His teachings and writings had an amazing affect on people and the world, and will have for centuries to come. affect on people and the world, and will have for centuries to come. Book Reports

Absent Fathers
In The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, both boys named Wes Moore without fathers living in their immensely poor neighborhood display the effects of living in a destitute area without a proper male mentor. Wes Moore, the author, was left without a father at age 4, which may have caused him to feel a lack of direction in the beginning of his life; in addition, living in a poor neighborhood may have caused him to be unable to see how success can come through education. His mother did indeed give him love, tried to get to him do well in school, and sent him to a private school, but Wes didnââ¬â¢t feel like trying to do well in school for at least two likely reasons. Wes always grew up in a place where most families had a low income. At Chinquapin Middle School in Baltimore: ââ¬Å"Close to 70 percent of the kids were on the school lunch programâ⬠. Many of the parents of the community couldnââ¬â¢t afford to feed their children without financial aid from the government. Although he spent a lot of time living outside Baltimore, in the Bronx, he still lived in a place where crime and drugs were rampant. In places such as these, academic success would seem to be futile because of the lack of impression from people in their world. There wouldnââ¬â¢t be very many scholars, who had achieved a higher education and led a successful career that brought them happiness and a handsome salary. Living in Baltimore and the Bronx, Wes had nowhere to actually see with his own eyes how education could take him to great places. The death of the authorââ¬â¢s father, and lack of a male mentor, definitely caused a stir of anger, confusion, fear, and possibly ended up in a depression that even affected how well he did in school. At such an early age, being hit with the sudden reality that your father is no more, emotions can become bottled up. According to a study in The Journal of Adolescence, the lower the GPA of students, the more commonly they were depressed. Wes had been left with a mental stigma for a part of his life, because of the death of his father, and his terrible performance in school is undeniable. In the third grade, he was reading at a second grade level. When attending Riverdale, he was hardly attending school and doing so terribly in academics that the principal called his mother. His mother then sent him to military school and because of that he was able to have male role models. Having male role models, arguably, was the main factor in how he turned his life around. He no longer felt the repressed emotions from when he was a child, and he eventually started to enjoy academics. Had he a father for all his life, he might have never had the same problems with academics and such. The other Wes Mooreââ¬â¢s life was greatly influenced by his lifeââ¬â¢s circumstances. He also was raised in a destitute area where crime and drugs had taken over neighborhoods, and never had a real father figure. Young boys need a role model, and because he never had a male hero in his life, he looked to his brother as a role model. Even though his brother did not want him to get involved in the same crimes he was involved in: ââ¬Å"To Wes, Tony was a ââ¬Ëcertified gangstaââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Moore 27). Tony had an immense reputation in the drug game. He worked his way to the top, and naturally, such respect and reputation would appeal to other people. Wes eventually followed in Tonyââ¬â¢s footsteps. He was also gravitated toward dealing drugs, because the only neighborhood he knew was filled with demand for drugs. His mother spread thin financially which was in part because they didnââ¬â¢t have any income coming from their father, and drugs seemed an easy way to make money in his world. He became heavily involved with selling drugs, and ultimately, he joined Tony in committing the crime that got them both into prison for the rest of their lives. With no father, Tony was the only one to look up to. Adolescents without fathers are twice as likely to drop out of high school, just as Wes did. Wes seemed doomed to never make it out of his poor, crime infested neighborhood, because of the environment and the absence of his father.

18th and 19th century creative artists role Essay
18th and 19th century creative artists role - Essay Example The features of art movements reveal a lot about the times in which the artists lived. The mid-eighteenth century saw the rising of an art movement called rococo. Previously, baroque dominated art in Europe, specifically in France where rococo emerged. The emergence of rococo resulted from the extreme use of the baroque in court paintings during the reign of Louis XIV (Sheriff and Watteau 27). Architecture, painting, sculptures and any art form in that era exhibited the baroque features. With some creative artists feeling that it was time for France to explore more in art and its different tastes, rococo emerged. With the new art culture, artists assumed the role of ââ¬Å"social leaders.â⬠During the emergence of rococo, the creative artists played the role of conveying changes in society to the people. Creative artists represented each of the social changes in their work. The death of Louis XIV motivated artists to adopt a new art style to mark the end of reign (Sheriff and Watteau 27). Artists sought to create a transition from the stringent use of baroque effects. In addition, the control of artwork shifted to aristocrats. Before rococo emerged, artists emphasized the value of power in society in most of the art pieces. In the period of rococo, many artists utilized art to emphasize the importance of entertainment. In this era, the attitudes of society had changed because of a new reign in the royalty. Creative artists sought to represent the political changes in society in their artwork and opted for a relaxed style that could emphasize the shift. In addition, the artists also acted to sensitize people on the changing roles of women in society. Europe was beginning to accept contribution of women to society. Although this was to a less extent and women did not have many rights, the theme appeared greatly in rococo work. The creative artists were sensitizing society on the change of attitude towards women. Moreover, some paintings and sculptures by

Why and How are organizations out of Sync PT 2 Essay
Why and How are organizations out of Sync PT 2 - Essay Example The sole reason that resulted in one getting the given post can always lead us back to the type of manager on is. Basically, every person usually has a dream of being a boss one day and commanding other people to do their work. Once in managerial position, one can clearly see one that fits that position as having leadership qualities from the one who does not (Hickman, 2010). I believe that not all leaders are managers. It is possible to find someone who possesses leaders (Hickman, 2010)hip skills, but is not a manager. Leadership entails one who acts as a leader for others to follow. Leader commands respect and is held responsible for the other peopleââ¬â¢s affairs. Manager is people who are expected to have management skills in them. Though management and leadership go hand in hand, but in some cases may not. It is possible to have a manager who is not a leader and a leader who is not a manager (Hickman, 2010). In my personal experience while working in a certain private company, it happened that the manager in charge was a friend of the co-founder of the organization. Many workers in the company really disliked him as he always came up with rules to oppress the workers and make their lives in the company harder (Hickman, 2010). He always fired workers who annoyed him and knew that his actions were un-punishable. Looking at this example, this manager showed poor leadership skills (Hickman, 2010). He was unable to lead the people whom he was in charge and somehow abused his role as a manager for personal satisfaction. Leaders are people who place the desires of other people in front of themselves (Hickman, 2010). A true example of a leader is Mahatma Gandhi, who sacrificed his role as a prince to become a religious leader who had influence on the people. Leaders basically lead people towards a common goal, while managers are involved in organizing, controlling, planning

Con Air Worldview :: essays research papers
à à à à à When looking through many different movies, and lyrics I chose the movie Con Air, starring Nicolas Cage. Cage portrays Cameron Poe, an ex Army ranger who has just returned from the Gulf war. Right from the start Poe is faced with adversity. His return was not what he had hoped for. After he had spent time with his wife, Poe decided to call it a night, however a local gang decided to start a fight while they were leaving the parking lot. Poe easily wins the fight due to having such extent training in the military. After the brutal fight scene, he ended up killing one of the assailants on accident. This is where the movie takes a sudden turn for Poe. He is charged for that act, even though it was in self-defense. We next find Poe at a high-security prison where he is to spend the next 7 years. Throughout that time we learn about his new daughter Kaci who is Poeââ¬â¢s major purpose for getting out of jail. He gains a new friend in his cellmate Baby-O. After many years in prison, Poe learns that his pardon was granted; all that separates him from being with his family is one flight. Little did he know the plane would be filled with crazed convicts trying to overtake the plane. à à à à à For the most part, the entire movie portrays a worldview similar to that of the Naturalist stance. Excluding Poe and Baby-O, the entire cast doesnââ¬â¢t even acknowledge God. Many times the two friends are faced with difficult situations. When Poe was about to leave prison, Baby-O asks who will watch his back Poe replies God will. In another scene, Baby-O is shot through a struggle on the plane. He then questions Poe about if there is a God. His answer, Iââ¬â¢m going to show you that God does exist! These two take a very theistic view towards God, although they donââ¬â¢t admit to being a Christian, they do acknowledge ââ¬Å"aâ⬠God of some form. The entire ââ¬Å"gangâ⬠of convicts follows a naturalist worldview exactly. There is no God; they can altar their own destiny. This is very evident throughout the entire movie. The character that portrays the naturalist world best would be Cyrus Grissom, the leader of the renegade convicts. Cyrus feels that he has total control over every situation. God doesnââ¬â¢t exist; therefore humans act as supernatural beings.

Critique of Stuff Is Not Salvation
Valued Possessions vs. Insignificant Desires Anna Quindlen, a novelist, social critic, and journalist wrote an intriguing essay ââ¬Å"Stuff is Not Salvationâ⬠about the addiction of Americans, who splurge on materialistic items that have no real meaning. The ability to obtain credit is one of the main reasons to blame for societyââ¬â¢s consumption epidemic. However, Quindlen feels the economic decline due to credit card debt is insignificant compared to the underlying issues of Americanââ¬â¢s binging problems. Quindlenââ¬â¢s essay gives excellent points regarding the differences in Americaââ¬â¢s typical shopping habits. Additionally, she mentions how people acquire all this ââ¬Å"stuffâ⬠but seem to never realize, ââ¬Å"why did I get this? â⬠(501). Quindlen makes her audience visualize a world where we acquire our needs versus our meaningless desires. Yet, she fails to mention people who could live a life of happiness through the possessions they acquire. In summary, Quindlen supports her point of view with examples of American spending habits in the past decades of depression compared to now. She mentions Black Friday and how people become enthralled by cheap bargains (Quindlen 500-501). In Quindlenââ¬â¢s essay, she refers to an accident in which a worker at Walmart was trampled to death by a mob of shoppers and despite the horrific incident people kept shopping (500). With the U. S. depression, Black Friday brings hopes of more money spent, therefore a rise in the markets. The dream of an uplifted economy became unrealistic as people began to realize they could not afford their desirables, not even at a low cost. Today, Americans have an exorbitant amount of credit debt so they can acquire items that they want, without actually paying for them outright, for example, the Chatty Cathy doll Quindlen wanted in her childhood compared to the orange her dad received that had to be paid for (500-501). According to Quindlen, a family having less means they can appreciate possessions more and what they possess therefore has real meaning (502). Quindlenââ¬â¢s essay gives strong points about Americaââ¬â¢s addiction to consumption, the economic decline, and the necessities of life. There are plenty of examples that Quindlen gives to make her point across, that Americanââ¬â¢s spend money unwisely. For instance, in one of the examples, she mentions how every 16 months a person replaces a cell phone because itââ¬â¢s not as new anymore, and how toys are forgotten that eventually end up being junk (501). Quindlen then states the obvious ââ¬Å"stuff does not bring salvationâ⬠(501). However, she lacks examples of cases where peopleââ¬â¢s wants actually provide the happiness they usually expect. Rich people, for example, have an extra sense of security because the worry and stress that belong to the poor is something the rich donââ¬â¢t have and donââ¬â¢t want. Plus, who wouldnââ¬â¢t want to afford desires such as not living pay check to pay check or putting their kid(s) through college? Sometimes not being able to afford these items can bring on depression or verbal abuse into a home. The readerââ¬â¢s would have a better understanding of the essay if she included some of these situations. Overall, Quindlen portrays her idea of happiness not being the materialistic things in life, but by the things that have true meaning. By true meaning, I believe she means items such as photographs that have a significant memory attached to it. She jokingly states, ââ¬Å"Ask people what they would grab if their house were on fire, the way our national house is on fire right now. No one ever says itââ¬â¢s the tricked-up microwave they got at Wal-Martâ⬠(502). She brings her essay together nicely by asserting examples from her childhood, the U. S. depression, and a family that is happy with what little they have. The essay brings belief to the reader that in todayââ¬â¢s society many people spend money on things that end up being junk and take for granted the needs they should possess. People make investments that they later come to realize have lost their value because they did not really need it. Even though she made some valuable points in her essay, more than likely America will still make unnecessary expenditures. Therefore, with Quindlenââ¬â¢s idea that ââ¬Å"stuff is not salvation,â⬠there needs to be more examples shown of people who can afford their wants and with that they are still able to obtain happiness (501). She does however prove her point that the items we possess should have more of a priceless value rather than items we could live without. If stuff is not salvation why do so many of us seek more income to possess more items? This question is simple to answer with more research on people that donââ¬â¢t have the worries of the less-fortunate. Again, while we shouldnââ¬â¢t be materialistic, we shouldnââ¬â¢t just settle for less, nor should we be greedy and keep wanting more. Quindlenââ¬â¢s views made me reevaluate my spending habits and hopefully the next time I purchase something I can answer the question ââ¬Å"Why did I get this? â⬠(501). Ultimately, Quindlenââ¬â¢s essay is interesting and worth the read. Analysis Of he Matrix By The Wachowski Brothers, And Its...
Analysis Of he Matrix By The Wachowski Brothers, And Its Exploration Of Christianity The Matrix, a 1999 film by the Wachowski Brothers, is a psychologically disturbing film that questions the reality of our existence. This film is a story with a moral plot, about a group of renegades fighting a noble battle for truth, and the liberation of the human race. The film revolves around a character called Thomas Anderson (also known online under the alias of Neo, a hacker) who appears to be completely normal - he has a normal, dull desk job by day, and at home he leads another life in front of his computer. However, everything changes when a person called Trinity - an apparently quiteâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These Agents kidnap Morpheus and attempt to break his spirit to make him tell them the codes into Zion. With the help of Trinity and the other renegades, it is Neos job to rescue Morpheus and in the process, discover his true powers and his ultimate destiny. The Matrix shows us the future that lies down the end of one of the trouser-legs of time - humankind has been over-powered by their own inventions and are now living in what they think is the real world, while their planet crumbles around them. The film portrays the illusory world in the Matrix as being almost identical to our real world today, increasing the impact of its unreality later, whilst the films portrayal of their real world is post-apocalyptic. It appears to be much like many portrayals of Hell or a similar Distopia, which Morpheus describes as the desert of the real. To us this reality seems too unreal and nightmarish. We as an audience feel slightly repulsed, as we dont think that this could possibly be our world in the future, but as the film progresses, we realise that this future may be a grim reality. Near the beginning of the film, many things hint to a sort of mix up between reality and a dream and as viewers, we experience real versus unreal. Even in the title sequence,

Ways to Translate When Something Happened in Spanish
The usual way of saying in Spanish that something happened some period of time ago is to use the verb hace, which isà a form of hacer, to make, followed by the period of time. Using Hace to Express Time That Has Passed To express a period of time ago, a phrase using hace can come at the beginning of the sentence or can follow the verb. The main verb of the sentence is most commonly used in the preterite, or the simple past tense, although other tenses are possible. The literal translation of haceà can be understood to mean ago, it has been or it was. Spanish Sentence English Sentence Hace cinco aos nuestra escuela fue acreditada. Through a Different Perspective Free Essays
Asian and Asian American culture are historically known for having a strict, distinctive boundary between the traditional roles of women and men, where, In the domestic sphere, women are submissive to male authority figures, which are typically embodied in the father or husband. One well known example that calls to mind this subordination of women to men is Chinaââ¬â¢s one-child policy, which often leads to ill treatment, abandonment or leaving up for adoption of female infants and children as a result of wanting a male child to lead the family and carry on the family name. While this might be a more extreme result of this stereotype, there are many other similar historical stereotypes that subordinate the woman to the man In Asian and Aslant American culture. We will write a custom essay sample on Through a Different Perspective or any similar topic only for you Order Now Regardless of historical stereotypes, however, It Is clear to many individuals today that times are changing and causing culture to shift. One accessible way of highlighting the degree to which Asian and Asian American culture has changed from past to present is through film. Alice Wowââ¬â¢s Saving Face and Ketene Meatââ¬â¢s Spices note a number of historical stereotypes, but more importantly, they pen up dialogue about the slightly functions of female and male roles. Through the combination of symbol and metaphor, setting and situation, and most Importantly, contrast between traditional and non-traditional, Alice Www and Ketene Meta enable a different understanding of Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity in their respective films, Saving Face and Spices. Several historical stereotypes characterize traditional Asian and Asian American culture; Alice Www and Ketene Meta address these stereotypes and more. Many historical stereotypes of Aslant and Asian American culture revolve around the way a Oman should act in and outside of marriage and the way In which her Individual role contributes to the identity of a given cultural or familial group. Both Www and Meta present the traditional heterosexual married couple where the husbandââ¬â¢s word is comparable to law. In Saving Face, Www provides the grandparents and although the grandmother can offer her input and opinion to her husband, when it comes to serious matters like kicking out their daughter as a result of an illegitimate child, which goes against another stereotype, the grandfatherââ¬â¢s decision holds fast. In pieces, Meta presents Sarasota and the mukluk, where the authority of the husbandââ¬â¢s word is even more evident. Stereotypically, the wife and husband are also either fairly close in age or the husband is older. Other obvious historical stereotypes relate to how a woman should act in general. According to stereotypical Asian and Asian American culture, the woman should dress femininely and be passive and non- defiant, not only to the dominant male figure In her life, but In general as well. Historically, women could not receive an education either. Altogether, this creates the tropically impression of an Asian or Asian American woman with little or no personal identity, but rather an identity where she blends into the cultural group she is a part of. Historical stereotypes of Asian and Asian American men revolve around his status as an authority figure in the family. He generally has a very dominant and controlling point of view and way of interacting with his family. By addressing these points historical stereotypes both directly and Indirectly and combining them with Asian American femininity and masculinity. Through setting and situation, Www and Meta heighten the contrast between satirical stereotype and changing times, thus allowing viewers to experience dynamic characters who change and come to exemplify transgressing individuals, as opposed to having only static characters that are stuck in a historically stereotypical mentality. Saving Face is set in what seems to be modern day New York, where diversity in all forms is represented. The openness of thought in this setting creates all sorts of situations that are starkly different from traditional Asian and Asian American stereotypes, which shy in comparison in the film. For example, the introduction of an African American best friend in the form of Jay, which the mother meets and initially Judges close-minded because of his differing race turns into a situation later on in the film where the two of them are sitting side by side on the couch sharing the experience of an Asian television show. There are also more subtle situations where anti-stereotypical, and even transgressing, thought is expressed. Another such example is the instance when the grandmother mentions how Wigââ¬â¢s more masculine attire is fine for a woman. These situations and similar ones pugnaciously give viewers a different understanding of how times are changing, especially in relation to Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity, thus opening up viewersââ¬â¢ thoughts to other, more transgressing situations like LIGHT issues surrounding Wigââ¬â¢s official coming out and her acceptance into her family, as well as the idea of an illegitimate child to a much younger man. In a setting full of diversity like that in Saving Face, the unique characteristics of each individual are heightened, thus eventually giving Will the ââ¬Å"validated[ion] for both [her] ethnic and lesbian/gay densitiesâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"sense of social belonging and group cohesionâ⬠that Connie S. Chain notes are usually afforded as a result of coming out (Chain, 241). Proof of this success of both sexual and ethnic identity comes at the end of the film where the dance party, a common part of the Asian American community represented in the film, accommodates all the transgressors and accepts them, ultimately dismissing those who do not accept them by having them leave the party. In contrast, the setting of Meatââ¬â¢s Spices is one of rigidity and at its most basic level, uniformity. It is set in sass India, a period of British colonialism, which enforces the ideas of oppression and fear of resistance (Shores, April 9, 2014). This setting makes any type of resistance all the more outlandish and outrageous, thus drawing attention to the transgressing women and men in the film and the way in which they struggle to break historical stereotypes and gender norms. The setting of the film allows for the placement of the ââ¬Å"all-powerful Subduedâ⬠, who exemplifies not only overbearing characteristics of colonialism, but more generally speaking, the sexual dominance of the Asian man over the Asian woman (Shores, 251). The Much plays a similar role but really expounds upon the domestic dominance an Asian or Asian American husband stereotypically has over his wife. To contrast these static characters who continue to represent these aspects throughout the duration of the film, Meta introduces transgressing men such as Masterââ¬â¢s and ABA Mania who both have more enlightened ways of thinking in comparison to the other male characters. The stark difference in these two different sets of men, again, highlights the more of Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity. In terms of female ranginess, this is even more evident than male transgression because of the way in which females are naturally expected to be non-defiant, especially towards the men of power in their family and in the community they are a part of. In a way, Meta uses this play on power between the Subdued and Sinbad to empower Sinbad more. If ââ¬Å"the Subdued wants Sinbad because of her defianceâ⬠and if ââ¬Å"her resistances is a power that excites him,â⬠Meta suggests that a woman who is not completely submissive is more desirable than one who is because of the way she can more equally challenge a male counterpart (Shores, 250). Similarly, Meta empowers Shirtwaist by giving her acts of transgression real purpose. Each of her transgressions from putting her daughter into school, to kicking the Much out of their house, to leading the protest against the Subdued and her husband are followed by strong protests, and even violence, from her husband, thus emphasizing the true strength and ability of a female through persistent resistance and the effect it has on the dominant male figure in her life. If a womanââ¬â¢s role were to really be passive and unimportant, the manââ¬â¢s word to the public would be final and the woman loud either be literally or figuratively silenced, however the Much constantly brings up the way in which her actions continually affect his political and communal appearance, thus depicting the existence of a permanent voice. While the settings of each of the films more directly set the tone for enabling a different understanding of Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity, symbols and metaphor enhance this understanding on a more subconscious level. In Saving Face, Www constantly brings in the image of the face, both clear and unobstructed as well as partially hidden from view (Shores, April 2, 2014). The title even mentions the face as well. This constant symbol of the face suggests personal identity and in terms of this film, alludes to an identity not based solely on either sexuality or ethnicity, but rather a cohesion of ââ¬Å"ethnic and lesbian/gay identitiesâ⬠(Chain, 241). The recurrence of the image of the face hints at the importance of individual identity, especially for what would be transgressors of historical stereotypes. There is a constant reminder about the image one gives to the public and the way it differs from oneââ¬â¢s true self. A symbol that enhances a different understanding in Spices, is the symbol, or trope, of the chili pepper. The chili peppers ââ¬Å"symbolize womenââ¬â¢s sexuality,â⬠but more importantly, they not only ââ¬Å"offer a literal and metaphoric form of resistance,â⬠but also come to symbolize the power of colonialism and violent dominance in general because of their blood red color (Shores, 247). The scenes where Sinbad runs through and over the chili peppers and falls down symbolizes the success of colonialism and the way in which it has led to the overcoming of not only villages as a whole, but also the women themselves. At the name time, however, Sinbad gets up and continues to run over the chili peppers, showing how colonialism and oppression are overcome. By the end of the film, it is the very symbol of colonialism and violence that causes the women to come together in resistance against the Subdued, thus showing how colonialism and oppression become the very reason and purpose behind resistance, essentially acting as a spearhead against whoever imposes those things to begin with. In a more literal way become the literal weapons against the Subdued, who ââ¬Å"embodies the colonizers powerâ⬠(Shores, 249). Through this change in purpose of the symbol of chili peppers as a result of the unification of transgressing thought personified in Sinbad, Shirtwaist, ABA Mania, and the women who eventually come to use the ground up chili powder as a weapon, viewers come to a subconscious realization of a different understanding of Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity and the way in which this understanding is truly sculpted at the hands of those who are oppressed as they come to face and conquer their oppressors. Alice Www and Ketene Meta use these various strategies and more in their exceptive films, Saving Face and Spices to enable a different understanding of Asian and Asian American femininity and masculinity. By enabling these different understandings, they break historical stereotypes of Asian and Asian American women and men and empower females in a way that gives them a starkly different image than what is commonly attributed to them. North Korean Authoritative Government free essay sample
In this paper, I will attempt to explain why authoritarianism regimes such as the one in North Korea, still continues to govern even though the government is one of the more corrupted types of government still in existence today. The word authoritarianism is defined as, ââ¬Å"a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or opposition etc. )â⬠(Word Net) There are currently many countries in our world that are not democratic societies. There are authoritarian regimes that still exist today. Probably one of the more well known authoritarian regimes is the government in North Korea. North Korea gained its independence from Japan in the year 1945. Kim Jong Il is currently the leader of North Korea. The mismanagement of economics through the 1990ââ¬â¢s has made North Korea rely heavily on international aid to feed its population. North Korea has expanded their resources to help develop a military of about one million soldiers. We will write a custom essay sample on North Korean Authoritative Government or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Central Intelligence Agency) ââ¬Å"North Koreaââ¬â¢s long-range missile development, as well as its nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons programs and massive conventional armed forces, are of major concern to the international community. â⬠(Central Intelligence Agency) The government in North Korea is a big part to blame for the economic struggles. In President Bushââ¬â¢s first State of the Union Speech he declared North Korea as part of the ââ¬Å"Axis of Evil. â⬠President Bush also went on to say his goal was, ââ¬Å"to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends with weapons of mass destruction. He singled out Iraq, Iran and North Korea, claiming these states and their terrorist allies constitute an axis of evil arming to threaten the peace of the world. (Fact Sheet) ââ¬Å"The United States must act against these regimes by denying them the materials, technology and expertise to make nuclear, chemical and biological weapon s and provide them to terrorists, Bush said. â⬠(Fact Sheet) North Korea is currently a communist-state one-man dictatorship. Under a communist-state one-man dictatorship elections are held but there is nobody to run against the leader. For instance in September of 2003 there was an election held in North Korea. Kim Jong Il and Kim Yong Nam were the only nominees for the positions and nobody opposed them. (Central Intelligence Agency) The government controls the people. The government rules a lot of what the people of North Korea can do or say. For the executive branch in this country, Kim Jong Il has been the ruler since July of 1994. Kim Yong Nam is the president of its Presidium and he also has the responsibility of representing state and receiving diplomatic credentials. Central Intelligence Agency) As for the legislative branch, the ruling party approves a list of candidates who are elected without opposition, but some seats are held by minor parties. (Central Intelligence Agency) The judicial branch of North Korea consists of a central court, and the judges are elected by the Supreme Peopleââ¬â¢s Assembly. The way this government is set up is very different than the way the democratic states are set up. In a democratic society the people get to vote for leaders and high ranking officials. While in these authoritarianistic regimes, the people have no say in who is going to run their country. There have been many North Koreans that have tried to escape either to China or South Korea. Few people have made it across the boarders safely. However, if they fail to escape and they are captured by the North Korean military they will be tortured or even executed in some cases. (Pearson Education) ââ¬Å"North Korea, one of the worlds most secretive societies, has been accused of egregious human-rights violations, including summary executions, torture, inhumane conditions in prison camps, which hold up to 200,000 prisoners, and denial of freedom of expression and movement. Access to the country is strictly limited and North Koreas domestic media is tightly controlled, making it difficult to substantiate the accusations. â⬠(Pearson Education) I believe a huge part of why North Korea is actually still in existence is because the military has so much control on the people. Of course no country wants to start a war with North Korea because of their military strength and their nuclear weapons. ââ¬Å"A number of stabilizing elements assist the regimeââ¬â¢s efforts to maintain internal order. The society seems united in popular support for the party, and the people have a strong sense of national pride. Kim Il Sung, by all indications, truly is admired and supported by the general population. â⬠(Federal Research Division Library of Congress: Pg 275) It is difficult for people that are from a democratic government to actually understand why authoritarianism governments work. Most all of the authoritarianism governments that I know have a strong following from their people. Whether the masses like the leader because he is helping the economy or helping a food shortage situation is another story. Personally I think these people in these countries are so afraid of what the leader might do to them or their family that they just do what they are told. Of course these people have never had it any other way. They donââ¬â¢t know what it is like to have a democracy. They donââ¬â¢t know what it is like to voice their opinion. The people in North Korea didnââ¬â¢t get to choose where they wanted to be born. If we had a free world Iââ¬â¢m sure when some of those people realized that there are better governments in the world that wonââ¬â¢t control your every move then they would leave the country. It is just not that easy for anyone to just get up and go to China or South Korea. People born into democratic societies should be thankful that they can enjoy the freedoms that they have, because there are other parts of the world where the idea of having rights is completely out of their control. There is no possible way the people can over throw the government in North Korea. North Korea has too strong of a military. One way the government will get overthrown is if it is done internally. The second way it will get overthrown is if they go to war with another country and they lose their power. ââ¬Å"Indeed, research on Korean communism has become the pursuit of an avocation, meandering off the mainstream of contemporary social science. Most students of Korean communism have come under the influence, in varying degrees, of the lingering legacy of Kremlinology and the advancing model of Chinese studies. Following the general lines of development in Chinese studies in the 1960s and 1970s, research on Korean communism has shown an uneven advancement. On balance, research and knowledge concerning North Koreaââ¬â¢s domestic politics and economy have developed more rapidly and significantly than the study of its foreign policy, which has remained neglected and underdeveloped. (Kim Pg:282) The economy in North Korea is struggling. Due to flooding and the lack of arable land, the people in North Korea are at a food shortage. Massive amounts of international food aid have allowed people of North Korea not to starve. Central Intelligence Agency) Mal-nutrition and poor living conditions still exist heavily in North Korea. As with everything else in the country, the government has the right to control the food and economic conditions. The religions that are practiced in this authoritarianism government are traditionally Buddhist and Confucianist, with some Christian and syncretic Chondogyo (Religion of the Heavenly Way. ) ââ¬Å"Autonomous religions activities now are almost nonexistent; government sponsored religious groups exist to provide illusion of religious freedom. (Central Intelligence Agency) Like other authoritarianistic governments such as Cuba, Iran, Afghanistan, and Iraq until not to long ago, the regimes will last until somebody does something about it. The United States ended the authoritarianism regime in Iraq because we had enough military power to overtake Sadaam Hussein. The U. S. troops are still over in Iraq trying to force the Iraqi people into having a democracy. The Iraqi people that have voted so far on the new leader of their country is not a man that the United States wants to have them run their country. Sadaam Hussein would still be in power and have complete control of Iraq if the United States didnââ¬â¢t take him out of power. The military balance in South Korea is much stronger then North Korea. In case of another North Korean invasion, the South Korean military only has about 600,000 people while the north has around one million. However these numbers are misleading because of the fact that these numbers donââ¬â¢t include the superior training, equipment, and logistical support that the south has. Kang: Pg 262) ââ¬Å"The South has outspent the North on defense in the last 15 years, if not longer. â⬠(Kang: Pg 262) North Koreaââ¬â¢s nuclear threats are a grave concern for South Korea and the rest of the world. The Soviets were building bombs in the 1950ââ¬â¢s and China developed a nuclear bomb in the early 1960ââ¬â¢s. North Korea didnââ¬â¢t start trying to assemble nuclear weapons until South Korea became a threat to them because they were overtaking North Korea in a lot of areas during the 1970ââ¬â¢s. Kang: Pg 266) ââ¬Å"North Koreaââ¬â¢s significance to the world with a bomb is much greater than without a bomb. â⬠(Kang: Pg 266)In conclusion, there are many reasons why the authoritarianism regime in North Korea is still up and running to this day. There is simply no way that anyone can overthrow the government unless it is done internally. The people located in these authoritarianism regimes usually like the leader, and agree to what he says. These people didnââ¬â¢t choose where they wanted to be born just like nobody in a democratic state had an opinion as to where they would like to be born. It is sad that most all of the money spent in North Korea is aimed toward building up a better military and not helping out with the economy or the food shortages. The only way these people know how to live is to be ruled by a dictator. Until the United States or some other world power takes down North Korea, the authoritarianism regime will continue to govern.

The Effect of Video Games on the American Educational System essays
The Effect of Video Games on the American Educational System essays The American educational system has been hindered by video games. If you look around you, you will realize that video games are everywhere. From iPod's, to smart phones, televisions, to even some of our printers now have games. Our generation is called the Joystick Generation, and for good reason too. Everyone is plugged in and no one more so than Americas youth. To put the impact of the Joystick Generation into perspective, take into account that software sales spiked twenty-eight percent last year to 9.5 billion. An average of nine games were sold every second according to the Entertainment Software Association. By the time the average adolescent turns 21, he or she will have spent 10,000 hours playing video games (Prensky page). This is about the same amount of time necessary to fully master a sport, musical instrument, or area of professional expertise (Ericsson pg.1). Given these statements, it is evident that video-games are a large aspect of todays life. The majority of our youth today play video games. Only making the effects of video games all that worse. Video games cause psychological problems in students such as aggression, apathy, and impulsive behavior as well as many physical problems such as obesity and high blood pressure. Video games have become such a large problem that all around the world there have been control sy stems put in place trying to keep violent video games out of the hands of adolescents. Society has a general understanding that video-games are linked to numerous negative issues, however, there are a few good studies about video games. Some scientists believe that video games do a few good things for people since they serve as a forum for interpersonal interactions, meaning that they provide an activity for friends to participate together in. Online video games can promote interactions with others across the game network and establish new friendships. Ot...
